The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation is carrying out important safety maintenance work along parts of the Welland Canal. This project involves removing trees and brush from specific canal banks to prevent long-term structural damage.<\/p>\n

Once complete, areas will be restored with native grasses and over 10,000 square metres of pollinator-friendly habitat. While safety rules prevent replanting trees on the water-retaining banks, we\u2019re collaborating with Land Care Niagara and with the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority for broader regional planting efforts in suitable locations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During the current phase of the project (January 16 – March 6), there will be days where the shared use trails will be closed at Location 2 (Welland Canals Parkway) and Location 3 (Glendale Avenue).<\/p>\n

Also, on some days, the Welland Canals Parkway will be reduced to one lane between Eastchester Avenue East and Cushman Road.
\nThe closure of the trails and the lane reduction on the Welland Canals Parkway are necessary for safety reasons and they will only take place on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.<\/p>\n

Signage will be posted at all affected locations, and access will reopen once it is safe to do so. We appreciate the community\u2019s patience and understanding as this essential work takes place.<\/p>\n
