Seaway Announces Changes to Board of Directors

Cornwall, Ontario (September 30, 2020) – The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (SLSMC) is pleased to announce the recent appointment of two new members to its Board of Directors.

At the SLSMC’s 2020 Annual General Meeting (AGM), Donald MacDonald, Vice President Operations, at G3 Canada Limited, was elected to the SLSMC Board of Directors by the grain industry group, replacing Patrick Bushby. Mr. MacDonald has had a long career with various Western Canada grain companies and, in his current position, is responsible for managing all of G3’s Canadian assets.

In August, Mr. Pierre Préfontaine was nominated by the Province of Québec to the Seaway Board. He replaced Mr. Gerald Carter whose mandate ended at the AGM. Mr. Préfontaine has a legal background and was a long-time employee with the Montreal-based CSL Group Inc.

Terence Bowles, President and CEO of the SLSMC, stated, “we welcome Mr. MacDonald and Mr. Préfontaine to the Board, and look forward to benefiting from the knowledge and experience they bring to the table.” He also thanked Mr. Bushby and Mr. Carter for their dedicated service on the SLSMC Board.

The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation is a private, not-for-profit corporation, created in 1998 pursuant to the Canada Marine Act, to operate and maintain the Canadian locks and channels of the St. Lawrence Seaway. Since the Seaway’s inception in 1959, 3 billion tonnes of cargo have been transported via the waterway. Some 329,000 jobs and $59 billion in economic activity are supported by the movement of goods within the Great Lakes – St. Lawrence River System.
