Seaway Welcomes Karen Tippett to its Board of Directors

Cornwall, Ontario (September 24, 2018) –The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (SLSMC) is pleased to announce that Karen Tippett has been appointed to its Board of Directors, replacing David Muir as the representative for the Government of Canada.
Ms. Tippett is an accountant (CPA, CA) with extensive experience in the financial field. Along with her work with municipal governments, her career includes employment with Ernst & Young and other private sector companies.
Terence Bowles, President and CEO of the SLSMC, welcomed her appointment. “Karen Tippett’s extensive accounting knowledge will certainly provide the Board with great depth and insight”, said Mr. Bowles. “Her experience with both not-for-profit public entities and Crown Corporations will be a plus.”
As noted, Ms. Tippett replaces Mr. David Muir, who had been on the Seaway Board since 2010. “David Muir’s solid performance and long tenure on the Board deserves our thanks and recognition” said Mr. Bowles.
The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation is a private, not-for-profit corporation, created in 1998 pursuant to the Canada Marine Act, to operate and maintain the Canadian locks and channels of the St. Lawrence Seaway. Since the Seaway’s inception in 1959, almost 3 billion tonnes of cargo has been transported via the waterway. Some 238,000 jobs and $45 billion in economic activity are supported by the movement of goods within the Great Lakes / Seaway System.
