Cornwall, Ontario (February 20, 2008) – The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (SLSMC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. W.D. (Bill) Mooney to its Board of Directors, as the representative for the grain industry.

The appointment of Mr. Mooney complements the expertise present within the SLSMC’s Board of Directors. Mr. Mooney serves as Director, Terminals for Viterra, the entity spawned by the combination of Saskatchewan Wheat Pool Inc. and Agricore United. Having joined Saskatchewan Wheat Pool Inc. in 2003, his roles have encompassed a diverse range of assignments spanning many aspects of terminal operations. Mr. Mooney’s career began in 1984 with James Richardson & Sons Ltd. where he fulfilled a number of assignments, culminating with his appointment to the role of Vice-President, Strategic and Organizational Development.

Richard Corfe, President and CEO of the SLSMC, welcomed the appointment of Mr. Mooney. “We are pleased to have Bill join our Board of Directors, and we look forward to his insights. Since the Seaway’s inception in 1959, grain shipments have been a key commodity within our core bulk cargo mix, and we are endeavouring to further strengthen the Seaway’s role within all bulk markets.”

Since its inception in 1959, more than 2.4 billion tonnes of cargo, valued at over $350 billion, have moved via the Seaway. Today, marine transportation within the Seaway continues to support the well-being of millions of people on both sides of the Canada/US border and, through increased use, carries the promise to do even more. The SLSMC remains dedicated to promoting the economic and environmental benefits of the marine mode, attracting new cargoes to the Seaway and leveraging technology to enhance the system’s performance.
