#11 – Speed Monitoring South Shore Canal and Welland Canal Vessels in Excess of 80.0 dm
July 15, 2004
Mariners are reminded that, as per Seaway Notices No.’s 2, 8 and 10 of 2004, for vessels loaded to a draft greater than 80.0 dm (26′-3”), speeds will be monitored carefully in the South Shore Canal and between the upper entrance to Lock 7 and former Bridge 12 of the Welland Canal effective on July 15th, 2004. This monitoring is being implemented in order to minimize bank erosion in these areas and to reduce vessel squat. Mariners are also reminded that there is to be zero tolerance for vessel drafts in excess of 80.8 dm (26′-6”).
